Water Vole Adventures
On Thursday 8.6.17, a group of children from West Meon Primary School were fortunate to be involved in the South Downs National Park's project to introduce Water Voles to the Meon River. For more details on this project please use the link: http://learning.southdowns.gov.uk/wildlife-habitats/south-downs-species/water-vole/ .
When the children arrived at the River Meon they were encouraged to walk quietly towards the release pens, which were hidden on the banks of the river. Once the pens were found, they were moved away from the bank. The children were then able to feed the water voles carrots and apples. The children were even lucky enough to see a few water voles! Whilst out and about the children were also excited to see a deer and a variety of bugs.
The children were given a lot of information about water voles and also the importance of conservation.
We would like to thank the South Downs National Park for such a unique and unforgettable experience.
